Medal of the Royal Academy for Moral and Political Sciences
Dr. Pedro Schwartz occupies seat no. 29 and is the recipient the same medal as several already distinguished deceased economists, such as Mr. Manuel Torres y Martínez, a Keynes disciple, the staunch protectionist Mr. Pedro Gual Villalba and especially Mr. Mariano Navarro Rubio, whom Mr. Pedro Schwarz praised in his February 2005 reception speech for his excellent work as head of the Ministry of the Treasury and his management of the Stabilisation Plan of 1959. Dr. Pedro Schwartz was elected Member of the Academy on 22 February 2005 for his contributions to the history of economic thought, to economic methodology and to the liberalisation of Spanish society. He was also chosen as the creator of a “Madrid school of economists”.
The Academy meets every Tuesday during the academic year to listen to a dissertation by one of the Academicians, in with critical comments by the rest. So far, Mr. Schwartz has lectured on “Mr. Antonio Cánovas del Castillo”, “The future of the European Union”, and an appraisal of “Mr. Rafael Termes” in the obituary session that the Academy dedicated to this distinguished liberal. All these works can be found on this Website.
